Self Care Tips for Moms that feel discouraged!

As a busy mom, we are constantly being pulled in all directions! Our kids need us 24/7 and we can’t even go to the bathroom without them knocking on the door! If you are a mom of little ones, you know what I mean!

Then on top of that, our husband wants our attention, the cat needs to be fed, the dog needs to be walked, the laundry needs to be done, we need to shop for groceries, everyone needs to eat, but only we can fix it, the kids need to be taken to their activities, we have to work and lets see…oh yeah everything else needs to be done that we can’t even get to. So during all of that everyone else comes first and we take care of ourselves last.

So how do you fit “Me time” in? How do you find time for your health? How do you make sure that you are feeling satisfied in your life? Here are some self care tips for moms to help fit in time for you!

Schedule in time for you!

Make a schedule for your day and make sure to fit in that schedule to read your bible, pray, get a workout in, and find something that you can call yours to accomplish! Making a schedule in the day will allow you to know that you get some time in for you. Get up early in the morning, fit in time when the kids are napping or after they go to bed for the night.

Spending time with the Lord!

How do I fit in time with the Lord when I don’t even have time in the day for me? You make time! This could be at night after the kids go to bed, but I like to start my day off right with time alone with God, my bible and my coffee! I find me a quiet place, read my bible and pray. I feel closer to God when there are no distractions!

Starting my day off right with the Lord, helps set me in a positive mood and gets my mind thinking about him throughout the day.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you- Matthew 6:6

Get up and get moving!

I don’t have time to workout! This is the biggest excuse I have ever heard. I know because I have used it! Again, schedule it! If you have time to watch your nighttime shows, then you have time to workout. It is all about the mindset! If you are using this as an excuse, then it is not a priority in your life.

Working out can be alone time for you and you are taking care of yourself! It also allows you to be a good role model for your kids. Make working out fun! Go for yoga, dancing, cardio or running! Whatever you do make sure you enjoy it!

Make time for your girlfriends!

Spending time with other moms can help refresh you! You can talk, laugh and cry about only things that moms deal with! There is nothing like having that close group of friends that will support you, pray for you and have your back! Plus, it helps to know that you are not alone in this mom journey!

Eat healthy!

It is so easy to just grab fast food when out running errands or go for ordering pizza when you are so busy! But, I promise you will not like your body if you keep that up!

Eat foods that will make you feel good. Eating veggies, drinking lots of water, cutting out processed food and fast food will make your body feel healthier, which equates to a happier mom.

Plan out your meals for the week and after grocery shopping, then meal prep for the week. If you have your meals ready, you will more than likely stay on track and it helps with being too busy during the week.

Getting plenty of rest and sleep!

Make sure that you are getting plenty of sleep during the night! Not getting enough sleep can cause stress, weight gain, health problems, affect your sex life and mood!

When I choose to get enough sleep each night, I feel less irritated, have a clearer mind, make healthier food choices and have a healthier body over all.

When mama ain’t happy, then no one is happy!

Spend time on you!

Soak in a bathtub with Epsom salt and lavender, work a puzzle, read, sew or get out and shop or get a manicure/pedicure while the kids stay with dad!

Work on your dreams! Do you dream of working from home and not having to go to a job that someone else tells you what to do? Do you want to run your own business? Whatever your dream is, find it and achieve success!

Focus on what’s important!

We feel the whole house has to be clean all the time! Well….if you have kids, that is not going to happen! So why stress about it? Let some things go and focus on other things that have to be done! I learned a long time ago, that I was just causing myself unnecessary stress when I felt like I needed to get everything done in one day. Make a list of things that have to be done for the day and let everything else go!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

  1. Thank you for reminding me to get closer to god and to eat healthier. Those are two things I forget to do and its so important because they both involve me staying on this Earth longer for my son, which is the most important thing for me. If my son doesn’t have me, then he would be without a parent since his Father is not around or responsible ( nor would i want him near my son! ) so I would pretty much be rolling around in my grave if something should happen to me. I need to get close to god. How can I repair my relationship with him?

    1. Thank you Sophia! You can definitely find God again! He is here waiting for you to reach out! Take time each day reading the bible, praying and just spend time with him. I know for me, when I don’t do that, I feel lost. Let me know if I can help in any way.

  2. This post is specifically for me, and I have been looking online for something that can help me because am particularly at that point that I am feeling discouraged. I love the idea of getting up and moving. I need to do exactly that and to spend more time with the Lord, am working on focusing on most important things too. thank you so much

  3. Well I cant relate to you as far as kids and married life, but I was raised in the church, mom took us to church every sunday and later friday night. 2 a week at church so im very familiar with the bible. I like your message of making time, being efficient with our time is something i learned well in the military, you can be surprised what can be accomplished in so little time if you use time wisely and MOVE quickly and with a sense of purpose. Planning ahead also helps with being efficient.

  4. I can imagine how busy a mom can be, everybody looks for her and needs her in every little things we do. Finding a “me time” is really essential. I agree with you, it’s all about mindset, priorities. Great tips for all moms out there.
