We need God to lead us in every decision we make. He knows what we need and the best plan for us to take. Sometimes, when we pray we don’t feel like he is answering our prayers.
God, where are you? I asked you for something and I never received an answer. Why does God not answer my prayers?
God always answers our prayers, it just may be that it is not the answer we wanted or we are not praying right. When we do not hear his answer, we should take a deep look into our self and find out why. Here are some possible reasons that you might not be hearing his answer.
1. It may not be according to his will
When my mother was sick, I would pray and pray that he would heal her. She became sicker and I felt like God was not listening to me. My faithful grandmother, told me one day, “When you pray always make sure to pray that it be according to his will”. I will never forget that.
God has a plan and purpose for everything. My mother only became sicker and passed away after fighting her battle with cancer, but what my grandmother told me, helped me through the process. I realized that God knows what is best and there must be a reason that he needed her more than I did.
We don’t always get the answer we may be looking for, but God will answer you.
“If we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us” 1 John 5:14
2. Is your prayer self-centered?
Sometimes, our prayers are about something we desire. God knows what we need and if we are praying for him to help fulfill a desire or self gratification, then he will not answer you.
Our prayers are to be pure for him to answer.
“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” James 4:3
3. Are you obedient?
God will not answer your prayer if you are not going to be obedient to his calling. We can’t pray for God to do all the work, while we sit back and let him do it all. We have to be obedient and faithful to him.
“We command you that, if any would not work, neither should he eat” 2 Thessalonians 3:10
You can’t go about with secret sins and then expect him to come to your aid when you need him. You must have a relationship with him and reveal all your sins and run from them.
You also need to pray persistently! Do you only pray when you need help from God? We should be praying about everything, morning, noon and night. God wants to be a part of all aspects of our life.
4. Are you praying with doubt?
Are you praying a routine prayer, in hopes that God will answer you? If you have doubt in your prayer, then so will God. He will not answer you, if you are just praying in hopes that he will answer you.
We need to be praying with expectation, that he will answer our prayers. Pray with intensity and then look for his answer. He may not answer you right away, but he will answer you if you wait patiently. We pray and want an answer right away like a kid wanting something. If you get tired of waiting, then you had little doubt that he would even answer it.
God knows what we need the most and what is best for us and he will answer in perfect timing.
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind-James 1:6
5. Do you have faith in God?
Do you trust God to handle all your problems? Or are you demanding that he answer you on your terms? The way you want it? God will not answer you, if you have no faith or trust in him.
Go to God, lay down your problems to him and let him work on them in his own way. Go about your business and have faith that he will take care of you.
Rely on God to handle your problems! Tell Satan to get behind you because you have an awesome God that listens and will help you.
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”-Hebrews 11:6
So, if you do not hear God’s answers, then look upon yourself and make sure that you are being faithful in you walk with God, that you are not asking him to fulfill prayers based on self desires, that you are trusting in him to take care of you and that you are being obedient and patient praying about everything.
